Recycled Water Conversion
Through the Recycled Water On-site Retrofit Program, the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) offers incentives for commercial, industrial, and institutional properties to switch their landscape irrigation from potable to recycled water. Recycled water projects can ensure a more reliable water future for Orange County by saving 100 percent of outdoor potable water for each dedicated meter and by increasing the number of recycled water lines (purple pipes) throughout the County. These projects also reduce the amount of water extracted from our groundwater basins and decrease the demand on imported water.
The Recycled Water On-site Retrofit Program provides potential incentives of $195 per acre-foot for five years up to actual retrofit costs from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan). Projects may also be eligible for an additional $65 per acre-foot for five years from MWDOC. Please note that if eligible for Metropolitan and MWDOC funding, the combined incentives will not surpass eligible retrofit costs.
Eligible projects for both Metropolitan and MWDOC funding must be in the MWDOC service area and meet all program requirements and terms and conditions. Projects must complete all permitting, and recycled water must be available at the project site at the time of application.
