Planning & Resource Development

The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) supports the planning, design, and implementation of local water projects, enhancing Orange County’s water reliability. By providing technical expertise, funding assistance, and regulatory guidance, MWDOC helps local water providers develop recycled water programs, groundwater recharge projects, and conservation initiatives for a sustainable water future.

Water Reliability Planning

How does Orange County stay resilient? We’re planning today for tomorrow’s water. MWDOC leads long-term water resource planning through the state-required Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) and the Orange County Water Reliability Study. These tools forecast demand, assess supplies, and identify future risks, helping guide local agencies and influence regional policy. It’s all part of MWDOC’s mission to ensure Orange County has a reliable, sustainable water supply through 2050 and beyond.

Urban Water Management Plan

MWDOC prepared the 2020 UWMP to submit to the California Department of Water Resources to satisfy the UWMP Act of 1983 and Water Code requirements. This Plan is a comprehensive documents that presents an evaluation of a water supplier’s reliability over the next 20-25 years and provides an assessment of the present and future water supply sources and demands within the MWDOC’s service area.

Orange County Water Reliability Study

Ensuring a reliable water supply that is resilient to droughts and climate change is essential to supporting a vibrant economy and quality of life for residents in Orange County. To help guide planning for future water supply reliability for water providers in Orange County and provide input on regional water supply issues for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MET), MWDOC has prepared the Orange County Water Reliability Study.
