MWDOC’s shared services provide retail agencies with cost-effective access to critical water loss control resources. Through a cooperative framework, Orange County water providers can engage in field interventions that reduce their water loss. Suspected leak investigations, customer meter accuracy testing, system pressure surveys, and water audit validation all help an agency better understand the causes of their water loss and are an essential step towards limiting them. By pooling resources and expertise, we achieve greater efficiency and long-term savings while ensuring compliance with evolving state mandates.

Leak Detection Program

Leak detection 1

MWDOC’s Leak Detection Program proactively identifies hidden leaks using advanced acoustic technology, preventing significant water loss and infrastructure damage. By detecting leaks earlier in their lifecycle, the program conserves hundreds of acre-feet of water annually, saves over 6 million kWh of embedded energy, and reduces emergency repair costs. Additionally, it enhances regulatory compliance, improves operational efficiency, and minimizes service interruptions.
