MWDOC Issues Statement on Governor’s Executive Order on Infrastructure

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CALIF. (May 24, 2023) – Megan Yoo Schneider, President of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Water District of Orange County, issues the following statement on Governor Newsom’s Executive Order to streamline and accelerate infrastructure projects in the State:

“The Municipal Water District of Orange County is delighted to review the infrastructure plan released by California Governor Gavin Newsom. The initiative prioritizes vital water projects, fast-tracking the environmental review process for crucial undertakings like The Delta Conveyance, Proposition 1 water storage, canal repairs, recycled water projects, and desalination projects like the Doheny Ocean Desalination Project in Dana Point.

“California stands to gain from this proposal’s goal of accelerating much-needed improvements to the State’s water and infrastructure systems. This plan also covers transportation, sustainable energy initiatives, CEQA reform, and accelerated permits.

“We are grateful that Governor Newsom is making water infrastructure projects a top priority. As residents of the State of California, we know too well how important water is for our communities, businesses, and environment. These critical water infrastructure projects need to be built, to provide abundant, sustainable, and affordable water supplies for Californians for generations to come.”
