Water Connects Us All!

Every day, people make choices that shape our shared future. These choices influence how they care for their community, their environment, and the precious water that sustains us all. The Municipal Water District of Orange County’s 2026 Water Awareness Poster Contest (Poster Contest) invites K–12 students to explore these ideas through creativity and self-expression. For more than 35 years, the contest has encouraged young people to explore how water is woven into every part of life and how they can help protect and preserve it. Through art, youth begin to see that their ideas can inspire meaningful change.

This year’s theme, “Water Connects Us All,” invites participants to reflect on the role water plays in their daily routines, the natural world, and the health of their community. It also encourages them to take pride in their creativity and to see themselves as contributors to a more water-aware society.

Check out these five reasons to participate in the Poster Contest and how young people can gain pride in knowing their creativity and leadership can help protect our shared water future.

  1. Explore Water Education Together: Parents and teachers can use the contest as an entry point to teach lessons about local water supplies, the water cycle, and conservation practices. By pairing learning with creativity, youth gain both knowledge and confidence in protecting our water resources.
  2. Express Their Unique Voice: The contest gives young artists a welcoming platform to celebrate creativity. Every poster reflects personal experiences, cultural perspectives, and emotional connections to water, empowering young people to share their stories with the broader community.
  3. Inspire Community Action: Kids naturally spark conversations. When young artists create posters about protecting water, they bring those insights home—encouraging friends and family to explore conservation habits and join in protecting our water future.
  4. Celebrate Success: Youth feel proud when their artwork is recognized and rewarded with fun prizes that honor their creativity and hard work. Teachers who submit entries as a class project also have a chance to win one of five $100 Amazon gift cards for their classrooms.
  5. Join a Countywide Effort: By participating, young people become part of a long-standing tradition that brings communities together to promote good water stewardship. Entries are due March 11, 2026. For complete rules and participation details, visit the website below.
