The Municipal Water District of Orange County is a wholesale water supplier and resource planning agency that serves all of Orange County (except Anaheim, Fullerton, and Santa Ana) through 28 retail water agencies. We purchase imported water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and distribute it to our client agencies, which provide retail water services to the public.

The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) has created
an award-winning water
use efficiency program that targets all water users.
Using an innovative, multi-agency approach, MWDOC develops, implements,
and evaluates programs that provide multiple benefits including irrigation
efficiency and pollution prevention, consumer incentives for water efficient
devices and industrial businesses, commercial, and residential water-wise
education. Through these programs, Orange County saves more than
23.6 billion gallons of water each year.

Water Use Efficiency Master Plan
The Master Plan is a plan which defines how MWDOC will comply with the state goal of a 20 percent reduction in municipal and industrial water use by the year 2020. The plan also provides a road map for Ora
nge County to achieve higher levels of water use efficiency, and includes proposed programs and investments that will help ensure water reliability for the future.

Rebates and Incentives
MWDOC offers programs to assist residential homeowners, commercial/industrial business owners, and professional landscapers, to reduce overall water use. Much of the funding MWDOC recieves to
implement these programs comes from federal and state grant funding agencies. Funding is also provided by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), and MWDOC's 28 member agencies.

Technical Resources
Shared resources, combined efforts, and consistant messaging are essential to the sucess of the WUE program. Together with our member agencies, MWD, and others, MWDOC has implemented Best Management Practices (BMP) that support long term sustainability goals.
Landscape Resources
Water Use Efficiency landscape programs, incentives, and classes, promote best water management practices for landscapes, irrigation, and water waste prevention outdoors. By taking advantage of the programs, incentives, and tips offered, we can significantly minimize peak water use, reduce demands on infrastructure, and raise awareness for all water users.
