The Water Emergency Response
Organization of Orange County (WEROC) coordinates
and supports an effective emergency response to a
major disaster on behalf of all Orange County water
and wastewater agencies. To carry out this mission
WEROC provides services that promote planning and
preparedness activities for both the agencies, as
well as its own Emergency Operations Center (EOC) volunteer
staff. The program also takes an active role in maintaining
two EOCs.
When WEROC was first established in 1983, many individuals from various water agencies generously gave of their time, expertise, patience and enthusiasm. Their foresight in recognizing the need for a comprehensive emergency preparedness program for the Orange County water industry resulted in WEROC's present reputation as a model for other regions to emulate. The continued support of the client agencies and other coordinating agencies, such as the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and the Orange County Operational Area, has continued to make the WEROC program successful in its planning and country-wide coordination.
Appreciation and thanks is extended to our founding agencies, the Coastal Municipal Water District (CMWD), the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC), and the Orange County Water District (OCWD), with support and guidance of the Orange County Water Association (OCWA). A great deal of gratitude is also given to WEROC's' funding agencies for their financial support: MWDOC, OCWD, Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD), the South Orange County Wastewater Authority (SOCWA), and the cities of Anaheim, Fullerton, and Santa Ana.
