In an emergency or disaster situation, the goal of the Municipal Water
District of Orange County is to provide water to our member
utilities. Since MWDOC does not operate water facilities, our normal office
procedures and programs, with the exception of finance functions, may be
pre-empted to provide assistance to water utilities in Orange County.
At the discretion of the General Manager or Assistant General Manager, MWDOC
staff may be assigned to many different tasks. Some of our employees may be
assigned to work at either of the Water Emergency Response Organization of
Orange County (WEROC) emergency operation centers. WEROC operates two centers,
one in north Orange County, the other in south Orange County.
MWDOC and its member utilities work collaboratively to develop emergency preparedness plans that ensure water reliability during a crisis situation or disaster. The latest effort, a partnership of 20 water and wastewater utilities, is the development of the Orange County Regional Water and Wastewater Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan identifies risks posed by natural and manmade disasters, and includes ways to minimize potential damage before it occurs.
